Former "Gossip Girl" star Ed Westwick will not face charges for rape due to "insufficient evidence." (Reuters)

In a memo on Friday, prosecutors said they did not have enough evidence to pursue charges. According to the memo, two of the women provided witnesses to help corroborate their accounts, including some who were outside the room where the alleged incident took place.

“Those witnesses were not able to provide information that would enable the prosecution to prove either incident beyond a reasonable doubt,” prosecutors wrote. “Prosecution on those two incidents is declined due to insufficient evidence.”

The third victim, who is not identified in the memo, did not respond to inquiries from the District Attorney’s office. The office declined to file charges in that case due to the victim’s unavailability.

The memo also states that some additional women made allegations of inappropriate touching, but that the incidents fell outside the statute of limitations.

Russian parliament to run competition for best rap song

competition amid a crackdown on contemporary music that evoked Soviet-era censorship of the arts.

A dozen rappers have had their shows cancelled recently after warnings from officials who claim that their music promotes the wrong values. At least three musicians have been detained.

In a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, the State Duma announced it would run a competition for the best rap song — but it has to be on the subject of travel in Russia. The winner, according to lawmaker Mikhail Degtyarev, will win a trip around Russian cities.

"We want to give a platform for open discussion and highlight the opportunities as well as drawbacks of this or that town," he said. "If, for example, there is a bad road near a tourist attraction, there should be a video about it."

Rap has emerged as one of the most popular music genres among Russia's youth — and a target for Russia authorities — thanks to its frank portrayal of daily realities and scathing criticism of the government.

Last month, a rapper known as Husky, whose videos have garnered more than 6 million views on YouTube, was arrested for staging an impromptu performance after his show was shut down in the southern city of Krasnodar. A court sentenced Husky to 12 days in jail on charges of hooliganism, but he was released four days later — hours before a solidarity concert in Moscow by popular hip hop artists protesting his detention.

The electronic duo IC3PEAK had six out of their 11 gigs cancelled in recent weeks, and on Dec. 1 they were briefly detained in a Siberian city.

Eager not to alienate young people, top Russian officials in recent days took steps to distance themselves from the arrests and show cancellations. The State Duma last week hosted a round table with some of Russia's most popular pop acts, and the presidential ombudsman for human rights said on Wednesday that President Vladimir Putin had asked her to investigate why the gigs are being shut down.

End of N64 Classic Mini? Blow for Nintendo fans hoping for SNES and NES Mini successor

lassic Mini to follow on from the success of the SNES and NES Mini.

For two years in a row Nintendo have released classic consoles, going chronologically through their home systems.

The first classic console was the NES Classic Mini, a pint-sized version of their breakthrough Nintendo Entertainment System.

Then Nintendo followed up this miniature 8-Bit console by doing a classic version of their next home system, the SNES.

It was widely expected that Nintendo would follow this up by releasing a mini version of their third home console - the Nintendo 64 (aka N64).

But so far there’s been no official word on a N64 Mini, despite plenty of rumours and even alleged images of the micro console leaking.

And comments from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime may indicate that the N64 Classic Mini is not going to happen.

He also said that the way Nintendo fans continue to enjoy “classic content is going to be through Nintendo Switch Online”.

This hopefully raises the prospect of SNES, N64, Gamecube and maybe even Wii games featuring on the Nintendo Switch at some point.

Reggie said: “There’s no ability for add-on content with our classic consoles, so when you purchase the console it’s coming with that set roster of content.

“We worked very hard, both for the NES Classic and the SNES Classic, to really have the best games that defined that generation.

“We’ve said that the current systems are the extent of our classic programme.

“We’ve also been clear that, at least from an Americas perspective, these products are going to be available through the holiday season and once they sell out, they’re gone.

“The way that consumers will be able to continue participating with our classic content is going to be through Nintendo Switch Online, and we just released three new games from the NES generation onto that platform.

“We look at that as the main way that consumers will be able to experience that legacy content.”

The news comes as more games have been added to Nintendo Switch Online this week.

Subscribers can get to play with some brand new NES games this week - Adventures of Lolo, the hard-as-nails Ninja Gaiden and Wario's Woods.

Special additions of Dr Mario and Metroid - which gives players boosted powers - has also been added to Switch Online.

See today's front and back pages, download the newspaper, order back issues and use the historic Daily Express newspaper archive.

Aquaman 2: Will there be an Aquaman sequel? Will there be another Justice League?

rner Bros adaptations being generally considered as flops. Wonder Woman was the first movie from WB to break the cycle and the studio hoped Aquaman could repeat that success. • Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

e Jackson 5 as members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, earning induction on Thursday along with Stevie Nicks and the top fan vote-getter, Def Leppard.

Radiohead, the Cure, Roxy Music and the Zombies will also be ushered in next spring at the 34th induction ceremony. It will be held March 29 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Jackson's induction comes after her third time as nominee and many saw it as overdue, given her prowess as a hitmaker with "All For You," ''That's the Way Love Goes," ''Nasty," ''Together Again" and "What Have You Done For Me Lately."

Her career has suffered from the fallout after the infamous 2004 Super Bowl appearance where her bare breast was briefly exposed. Jackson became eligible for the rock hall in 2007 and wasn't nominated until 2016.

The Roots' Questlove, in a social media post earlier this year, said her exclusion had been "highly criminal." He cited the influence of her 1986 album "Control," which he said set off the New Jack Swing trend.

It will be Nicks' second induction into the rock hall, since she's already there as a member of Fleetwood Mac. She launched a solo career in 1981 with her duet with the late Tom Petty, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." Other hits followed, including "Edge of Seventeen," ''Stand Back" and "I Will Run to You."

Def Leppard earned more than half a million votes from fans, which are incorporated into more than 1,000 ballots from artists, historians, industry professionals and past winners in deciding who gets honored. The British heavy metal band with a pop sheen were huge sellers in the 1980s on the back of songs like "Photograph" and "Pour Some Sugar on Me."

Frontman Joe Elliott said he was initially ambivalent toward the honor until Jon Bon Jovi suggested it would change his life.

"When I look at the list of who's in, it's just obvious you'd want to be in that club, isn't it?" he told Billboard earlier this year. "When you think that every band that means anything in the world, starting from the Beatles and the Stones and any artist that influenced them — your Chuck Berrys, your Little Richards, etc., etc. — then of course you want to be in. Why wouldn't you?"

Def Leppard, Nicks and Roxy Music were voted in during their first years as nominees. Other 2019 nominees who didn't make the cut included LL Cool J, Devo, Rage Against the Machine, MC5, John Prine, Todd Rundgren and Kraftwerk.

There's some question about whether Radiohead will shrug its collective shoulder as a nominee. The English band seemed like generic grunge rockers on their initial hit "Creep," but with the album "OK Computer" and beyond have become consistent sonic pioneers. Among its rock hall class, Radiohead has the most impact on the current music scene.

In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood said "I don't care" when asked about the rock hall. Bandmate Ed O'Brien said, "culturally, I don't understand it. I think it might be a quintessentially American thing."

The Cure and frontman Robert Smith resist their initial label as goth rockers, champions of fans who like black makeup, black clothes and darkly romantic songs. They have a durable catalog of hits, including "Friday I'm in Love," ''Boys Don't Cry," ''Pictures of You" and "Let's Go to Bed."

Roxy Music came out of the 1970s progressive rock scene and had hits with "Love is the Drug" and "More Than This." Dapper member Bryan Ferry had a successful solo career and Brian Eno has been an influential producer.

The heyday of British rockers the Zombies' career was the 1960s, with big sellers "She's Not There" and "Time of the Season."

The hall will announce ticket sales for March's ceremony next month. HBO and SiriusXM will carry the event.

fines who you are, but also because it shows what you have in common with others,” Velez told NBC News.

From Spider-Ham, a funny Spider-Man that looks like a pig, to Spider-Gwen, a version of Peter Parker’s high school sweetheart Gwen Stacy who later becomes Spider-Woman, the new film essentially explores the alternate universes in which these different kinds of Spider-Mans exist.

In 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,' all the distinct Spider-Heroes are forced to interact with each other after Marvel supervillain Kingpin creates portals to bring the multiple types of Spider-Mans into Miles Morales' universe.

“If I take my origin story as a first generation Latina straddling between 'La Isla' [the island, referring to Puerto Rico] and New York, 'Spider-Verse' shows me the connective tissue that makes me proud of my culture and roots in both places,” Velez said.

The newest animated Marvel superhero film touches on Stan Lee’s values of diversity and inclusion.

Velez considers her role as the mother of an Afro-Latino Spider-Man, who speaks in Spanish for almost half of her lines in the animated movie, "an important milestone for Latinos and African-Americans to see themselves represented on the big screen.”

“It’s pretty unique to play Mile’s mom, especially since Peter Parker’s Spider-Man doesn’t have parents in the other universe,” Velez said. “In this one, not only does he have parents, but his mom is Puerto Rican!"

For many fans, Marvel's heroes and villains seem relatable since many of their characters are portrayed as ordinary people. For this reason, Velez hopes that Latinx fans can specifically see themselves reflected in Miles Morales' life as much as she did while working in the film.

By including these day-to-day details, 'Into the Spider-Verse' reminds viewers that these kinds of experiences add another dimension to people's identity.

For Velez, this particular thought process used to create stories that feel more empathetic makes fans feel like they belong to a bigger culture or that their stories belong within Stan Lee’s creations.

“Spider-Verse is not just about your blood ties, but the families and tribes you create,” she said. “It brings together different characters from Marvel’s ultimate universes. And it looks and feels like our world, a place where all people can come together to form a universe.”

Arturo Conde is a content manager at The Balance, a personal finance website. Robin Thicke talks sudden death of father Alan Thicke and how it inspired his new music

ritten, or redistributed. ©2018 FOX News Network, LLC. All rights reserved. All market data delayed 20 minutes.

Singer Robin Thicke got candid in a recent radio interview about the loss of his father, actor and TV host Alan Thicke, in 2016.

The “Blurred Lines” singer sat down for an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show on Wednesday where he opened up for the first time about the impact his dad’s 2016 death had on him, as well as his new music.

“Well, it’s funny — my father passed away a couple of years ago and I thought I had an album and these songs that I wanted to put out. Then when that happened, it was something I wasn’t expecting and it just rattled my soul,” the 41-year-old singer said (via People). “So, I took some time to re-think the album and then these songs started pouring out that had more meaning and more weight to them.”

As previously reported, Alan collapsed while playing hockey with his youngest son at the Pickwick Gardens ice skating rink in Burbank, California. He later died at the hospital at age 69.

Lyrics in Robin’s new single “Testify” openly discuss the loss of his dad and how it changed not only his life, but his family’s dynamic. He explained on the radio show that, while the loss of his father brought him to a very low point in his life, spirituality helped him get through.

“It’s cathartic just to be able to say it and then let it live, as opposed to in the middle of a conversation or a quote,” he explained. “Once you put it into song form, then it can live forever. And so the message in the song is really about the hope and the light at the end of that tunnel when you feel that you lost or you feel that you don’t know what to do next. You know, that reconnection to God or spirituality or something deeper than the surface is what brings you back home to who you really are and who you want to be.”

This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed. ©2018 FOX News Network, LLC.
